The Bunnel Premier is an upgrade from our Bunnel Pupil. The Premier is an excellent choice for a beginning student. It features an upgraded quality of wood, providing a richer, warmer sound.

    Natural Oil Finish

The oil finish is a unique feature usually seen on more expensive violins. Student-level string instruments from other retailers at this cost are typically coated with a thick, glossy lacquer finish that hinders quality tone production. The Ricard Bunnel has an authentic, hand-rubbed oil finish. It not only looks more professional, but remains true to historical, tried-and-true standards of hand-crafted violin making. The construction, finish, fittings, and design of the Ricard Bunnel Premier give this instrument a warmer and more projective sound than other similarly priced instruments from other makers.

FREE expert setup by our staff of professional luthiers is included with your purchase to meet or exceed all MENC specifications and standard measurements. At Kennedy Violins, the luthier staff ensures that each violin is individually setup, tuned, and inspected to our highest standards. Your violin will be ready to fine-tune and play when you receive it—not sent to you unstrung or in pieces as from other online retailers.

    Professional set up includes:

    • Finish and test the fingerboard.
    • Adjust bridge radius, belly, string spacing and fit to top.
    • Shape the nut and ensure correct string spacing and action.
    • Ensure correct peg fit and function.
    • Adjust and secure the tailpiece.
    • Secure the chin rest.
    • Polish the finish.

    • Four built-in fine tuners on a composite tailpiece.
    • Genuine ebony fittings.
    • Solid carved (not laminated) maple back and sides.
    • Solid spruce carved (not laminated) top.
    • Inlaid purfling.
    • Handmade construction.
    • Satin oil finish (not a shiny, thick, tinny-sounding lacquer finish).

What makes our string instruments the best on the market? We purchase each violin directly from the maker — a rare practice that allows us to set high quality standards and lower our cost — passing the savings on to you.

Follow these instructions for the most accurate size: First, with arm outstretched to the side, measure the player's arm from the base of neck to mid-palm. Check the size chart below for the right size of violin according to arm length measurement. Always choose the smaller size if the student is in-between sizes. A larger instrument will hinder the student’s ability to play properly. The deciding factor is if the student is able to, or very close to, playing the 4th finger. If they can reach this fingering the violin will be usable.

    1. Extend arm fully to the side and perpendicular to the body.
    2. Measure from the base of the neck to the middle of the palm.
    3. If you are between sizes, size down.

Please use the sizing chart below to assist you.
